The Serum Institute of India regularly transports batches of vaccines from their factory in Pune to the Mumbai International Airport to be exported. They needed a system to monitor the truck’s location and its’ temperature. QDnet customized the existing hardware and software design of the Hawkeye Vehicle Tracking System to provide them with this facility.
Serum Institute of India Ltd. has established itself as the world's largest producer of Measles and DTP group of vaccines. It is estimated that two out of every three children immunized in the world is vaccinated by a vaccine manufactured by Serum Institute. Their range of products has been used in 140 countries across the globe and by International Health Agencies like the WHO, UNICEF and PAHO. Their high service standards have resulted in several acknowledgements and appreciation from International agencies and local governments and awards from Trade authorities. The Serum Institute’s main factory is in Pune.
The Serum Institute of India is one of the world’s largest vaccine exporters, as it exports to over 140 countries. Since, their main factory is in Pune, these vaccines are transported to the Mumbai International Airport, by truck to be exported. The temperature within the truck’s cargo compartment must be maintained at 4 degrees Centigrade (plus or minus 1 degree). Management at the Serum Institute needed a way to check the route taken by the driver as well as the temperature of the consignment in real time, while maintaining a log of the same for quality control.
The QDnet Solution
QDnet developed a customized GPS solution that accurately shows the movement of the truck along the route chosen by the driver as well as the temperature of the consignment, in real time. Thus management can monitor the truck’s location and its’ temperature. QDnet also wrote a custom software program to link the batch number to the trip, the trip log and the temperature log. Thus, the management can review any batch’s stopping report and temperature log by simply entering the batch number. This has helped tremendously in quality control.
Since the hardware for the Hawkeye Vehicle Tracking System is manufactured by QDnet completely in-house, we have full flexibility to modify the hardware design as required; even where specialized hardware interfaces are required eg. analogue interfaces (temperature, pressure, liquid level sensors) or digital interfaces (on/off, open/closed sensors).
